A little about the Malaysia Healthcare Market
Malaysia has an admirable healthcare system, which has a world-renowned source of companies and officials, tons of opportunities for medical careers and is supported by international investments and foreign doctors. To find the most relevant jobs for healthcare practitioners in Malaysia, navigate to Doctor Jobs Today’s job list.
Such recognition and success of the country’s healthcare services can be attributed to the employment of doctors from other countries in high-quality health institutions, both private and government based. It is predicted that both sectors will start to be increasingly preferred by people because of factors that negatively affect human health such as emerging viruses, air and water pollution, global warming, and sudden climate changes. Per aseanbriefing, Malaysia is among the leaders on the globe in providing affordable health-care, with up to 98 percent of the cost of services rendered in government-based institutions. So much so that the cost of a medical practice received in Malaysia is 40 percent lower than in the USA. In addition, the country aims to become a destination for other countries in ASEAN which is a regional group that provides economic and secure cooperation between member states and aims to develop relations, attracting many medical tourists each year.
What is MMC? (Malaysian Medical Council)
The Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) was established by an Act of Parliament approved on September 27, 1971, and published on September 30 the same year, for Malaysia to have a safe and well-equipped medical practice. It is located in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The main vision of MMC is to provide educational and practical standards that will maximize the benefits of patients, society, and doctors in Malaysia through the fair and effective administration of the Medical Law.
The MMC also legislates essential functions related to the registration and practice of doctors, additionally defines the duration of their (if needed) mandatory services as some Indonesian doctors go through a 6-month assessment/service in a public hospital and some of them have their applications approved without further evaluation. In the early years, MMC recognized college or university graduates who were accredited by the UK General Medical Council (GMC). Over the years, MMC has validated medical schools and hospitals in many countries, including Indonesia, adding these schools’ names to the current list of recognized medical degrees in the second program of the law. In recognition of these institutions, MMC approved the directive on accreditation procedures developed in 1996 and subsequently revised in the 2000s. The amendment to the law requires the medical council to be responsible for all health education, not just undergraduate medical training.
