Beacon Hospital is seeking a dedicated and competent Inpatient Medical Officer to join our clinical team. This role is vital in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality medical care while supporting consultants and multidisciplinary teams in a patient-centred hospital environment.
Role Overview
The Inpatient Medical Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to inpatients, ensuring continuity of care across shifts, and supporting clinical excellence in both routine and emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide medical coverage (routine and emergency) during assigned duty hours and act on behalf of the consultant when required
Deliver care with compassion, empathy, and respect for patient privacy, dignity, and individuality
Ensure continuous medical presence on-site during duty hours
Maintain effective handovers and clear communication between shifts to ensure patient safety
Lead the clinical team during cardiac arrest and emergency situations
Support chemotherapy daycare services, including IV cannulation, phlebotomy, and management of chemo-related allergic reactions
Perform essential clinical procedures, including:
Venepuncture (blood taking)
IV cannulation
Urinary catheterization
Arterial blood sampling
Nasogastric tube insertion
Review patients promptly upon nurses’ requests, document clinical findings, and provide appropriate follow-up
Review investigation results and communicate clinical findings effectively to consultants and relevant healthcare professionals
Perform COVID-19 swab testing when required for clinical indications (e.g., surgery, ICU transfer)
Certify deaths professionally and sensitively, and liaise with consultants regarding documentation
Conduct night rounds with the DNA and team leader to review patient progress and management plans
Ensure full compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, patient safety standards, and confidentiality requirements
