Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Officer (Emergency Department) to deliver prompt, high-quality emergency care in a fast-paced clinical environment. The role requires strong clinical judgment, rapid decision-making, and a commitment to patient safety and excellence in acute care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform rapid and accurate assessment of patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and emergencies
Conduct primary and secondary (triage) assessments through history taking, examination, and investigations
Initiate immediate management including resuscitation, stabilization, diagnosis, treatment, and referral
Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans based on clinical findings
Monitor and manage patients in emergency settings, including critically ill and high-dependency cases
Interpret diagnostic tests and make informed clinical decisions for further interventions
Administer medications and perform procedures within the scope of a Medical Officer, including minor surgical procedures
Prescribe medications responsibly and inform patients about potential risks, complications, and drug interactions
Provide counselling, psychological support, and health education to patients and families
Communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare teams regarding treatment plans and progress
Coordinate patient care and facilitate timely transfer to appropriate departments or healthcare facilities
Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely medical records in compliance with legal and clinical standards
Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements
Collaborate effectively with nurses and multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient department operations
Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and continuous improvement initiatives
Report incidents through proper channels in line with risk management policies
Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior
Requirements
Medical Degree from a recognized university
Valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) to practice in Malaysia
Minimum 3 years of experience in Emergency Department or related field
Strong communication, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Team-oriented with a proactive and responsible attitude
Compliance to Risk and Quality Standards
Comply with all applicable laws and professional standards, including the Medical Act 1971
Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives
Report any incidents through appropriate channels
Training and Development
Attend Continuous Medical Education (CME) and achieve required APC points annually
Continuously upgrade skills through relevant courses, training, and workshops
