Job Summary:
The Medical Officer – Emergency is responsible for delivering high-quality primary and emergency medical care. This includes providing immediate medical attention to emergency cases, supporting inpatient care in the wards, and ensuring smooth operation of critical services, including body hold services. The role also involves coordination with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities:
Emergency Department Duties:
Provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, and stabilization of emergency cases.

Deliver life-saving treatment and initiate appropriate care protocols prior to ward admission or further investigation.

Refer patients to appropriate consultants if none is specified or requested.

Respond immediately to all emergency calls and ensure timely and effective interventions.

Inpatient and Ward Coverage:
Attend to urgent and routine medical issues in the wards and ICU, including during CODE BLUE events.

Perform clinical procedures within granted privileges, such as setting IV lines, drawing blood, and administering IV medications.

Review inpatients as needed and consult with the attending physician before initiating non-emergency treatments.

Conduct daily ward rounds, night rounds, and attend nursing shift handovers to ensure comprehensive care continuity.

Clinical Collaboration & Documentation:
Communicate medical concerns, updates, and progress to respective consultants.

Accurately document clinical findings, treatments, and patient interactions in medical records.

Participate in shift handovers and ensure complete transfer of patient care information.

Provide assistance to nursing staff with patient management and post-hours clinical requirements.

Professional Conduct & Governance:
Work within the limits of granted clinical privileges and scope of practice, and escalate concerns when asked to act beyond competency.

Maintain confidentiality of all patient-related information.

Collaborate with the hospital pharmacist and adhere to recommended prescribing practices and hospital protocols.

Countersign drug orders given by consultants via telephone, ensuring safety and compliance.
