Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Medical Physicist to support and ensure the safe, precise, and effective delivery of radiation therapy and imaging services. This role is essential in maintaining clinical accuracy, radiation protection, and regulatory compliance within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Radiation Dosimetry & Treatment Planning
Perform accurate dose calculations and verification for radiotherapy patients.
Collaborate with radiation oncologists and radiotherapists to design and review treatment plans.
Conduct independent dose checks to ensure clinical precision and treatment safety.
Quality Assurance & Equipment Calibration
Implement and oversee QA programs for all radiation-producing and imaging equipment (e.g., LINAC, TPS, CT).
Perform routine calibration, performance testing, and safety evaluations.
Maintain detailed calibration documentation in compliance with AELB and IAEA standards.
Radiation Safety & Protection
Monitor radiation exposure for patients, staff, and public in accordance with AELB regulations.
Serve as Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) for safety audits, dose monitoring, and incident investigations.
Ensure proper shielding, signage, and radiation control measures are always in place.
Equipment Commissioning & Validation
Conduct acceptance tests and commissioning of new radiotherapy and imaging equipment.
Validate treatment planning and record-and-verify systems prior to use.
Provide technical insight for procurement, installation, and upgrades.
Clinical & Technical Consultation
Provide expert support for complex radiotherapy cases and advanced techniques.
Assist clinicians with protocol development and evaluation of emerging technologies.
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions to enhance patient outcomes.
Education, Training & Compliance
Train and guide radiographers, therapists, and staff on radiation safety and QA practices.
Stay up to date with scientific advancements in medical physics and radiation therapy.
Ensure full compliance with regulations under the Atomic Energy Licensing Act (Act 304).
Prepare documentation for AELB audits, licensing, and external quality assessments.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Medical Physics / Physics or related field from a recognized institution.
Registered with AELB Malaysia and certified as a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO).
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, or diagnostic imaging.
Strong knowledge in radiation safety, radioisotope handling, and advanced imaging systems (e.g., PET/CT).
Proficiency in treatment planning and QA software.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Strong collaborative skills within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
