Emergency Medical Assistant
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Emergency Medical Assistant to join our emergency response team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting paramedics and medical personnel in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care during ambulance transport and emergency situations. This role requires strong clinical awareness, teamwork, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.
Key Skills & Competencies
Life Support: Knowledge of basic life support procedures and emergency response protocols.
Patient Care: Ability to provide attentive, compassionate care to patients during emergency and non-emergency transport.
First Aid: Skilled in delivering first aid and basic medical assistance in urgent situations.
Medical Equipment Handling: Competent in using and maintaining medical devices such as oxygen systems, AEDs, suction units, and other ambulance equipment.
Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
Diploma in Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, or an equivalent healthcare qualification.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is preferred.
Previous experience working in an ambulance service, emergency response team, or hospital environment will be considered an advantage.
Physically fit and capable of safely lifting, moving, and assisting patients when required.
Ability to communicate effectively in Bahasa Malaysia and/or English.
Strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Support
Assist in the assessment, monitoring, and support of patients during ambulance transport.
Provide first aid, basic life support (BLS), and comfort care in accordance with established medical protocols.
Safely transfer and secure patients onto stretchers, wheelchairs, or hospital beds while ensuring their comfort and safety.
Operational Readiness
Prepare and restock the ambulance with essential medical equipment and supplies before each shift.
Ensure all medical devices such as oxygen systems, suction units, and AEDs are functioning properly and ready for use.
Maintain the cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of the ambulance interior to meet healthcare and safety standards.
Team Coordination
Work closely with the ambulance driver and paramedic team to ensure efficient emergency response and patient transport.
Follow instructions from the lead medical personnel during emergency situations and patient care activities.
Support effective communication and coordination during ambulance calls and patient handovers.
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete patient care reports, transport records, and medical documentation.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations and ethical standards.
Promptly report incidents, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel.
Customer Service
Demonstrate a professional, calm, and compassionate approach when interacting with patients and their families.
Represent the organization positively when engaging with hospitals, clinics, and the wider community.
