We are seeking a highly competent and detail-oriented Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) to ensure the highest standards of radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance within our healthcare facility. This role is critical in safeguarding patients, staff, and the organization while supporting safe and effective use of radiation in clinical practice.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities
\n1. Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance<\/p>\n
Serve as the appointed Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) in full compliance with AELB requirements and applicable Malaysian regulations.<\/p>\n
Ensure adherence to the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984, AELB regulations, and Ministry of Health (MOH) standards.<\/p>\n
Manage, maintain, and renew all AELB licences, approvals, and statutory documentation.<\/p>\n
Develop, implement, and continuously monitor the organization\u2019s Radiation Protection Programme (RPP).<\/p>\n
2. Clinical & Operational Oversight<\/p>\n
Oversee radiation safety practices across radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, diagnostic radiology, and CT services (as applicable).<\/p>\n
Monitor and assess radiation exposure for patients and staff, ensuring compliance with approved dose limits.<\/p>\n
Ensure appropriate shielding, controlled areas, warning signage, and access controls are in place and maintained.<\/p>\n
Review and advise on radiation safety aspects related to installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of radiation equipment.<\/p>\n
3. Staff Monitoring & Training<\/p>\n
Conduct radiation safety training and induction programmes for medical officers, radiographers, physicists, nurses, and other relevant personnel.<\/p>\n
Provide expert guidance to management on radiation risks, compliance gaps, and mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n
Promote a strong culture of radiation safety awareness throughout the organisation.<\/p>\n
4. Quality Assurance & Incident Management<\/p>\n
Participate actively in quality assurance (QA) and continuous quality improvement initiatives related to radiation safety.<\/p>\n
Investigate radiation incidents, near misses, or over-exposure events and ensure timely reporting to relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
Prepare audit documentation, incident reports, and support internal and external inspections.<\/p>\n
5. Advisory Role & Multidisciplinary Collaboration<\/p>\n
Work closely with medical physicists, radiologists, oncologists, radiotherapists, engineers, and technical teams.<\/p>\n
Act as the primary radiation safety advisor to senior management and regulatory bodies.<\/p>\n
Support accreditation processes, regulatory audits, and compliance reviews.<\/p>\n
Job Requirements<\/p>\n
Degree or Diploma in Radiography, Medical Physics, Nuclear Science, Radiological Science, or a related discipline.<\/p>\n
Certified Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) recognised by AELB (Malaysia).<\/p>\n
Minimum 2\u20135 years of experience in radiation safety within a hospital or healthcare environment.<\/p>\n
Hands-on experience with radiotherapy and\/or diagnostic imaging equipment is highly preferred.<\/p>\n
Strong knowledge of AELB licensing processes, audits, and inspections.<\/p>\n
Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and reporting skills.<\/p>\n
Strong communication, presentation, and training capabilities.<\/p>\n
