Job Description
The Chief Nurse serves as the executive head of the Nursing Service Department and is responsible for the strategic leadership, administration, and overall management of nursing operations. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care aligned with hospital standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices.
The Chief Nurse carries full administrative authority over nursing services, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, controlling, and evaluating all nursing functions across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Administration
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing clinical programs and services
Formulate and execute strategic plans to ensure excellence in nursing care delivery
Oversee manpower planning, staffing standards, and resource allocation
Spearhead budget preparation and forecasting for nursing operations, facilities, and equipment
Participate actively in hospital policy formulation and program development
Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance
Ensure nursing practices align with current research, professional standards, and patient safety protocols
Monitor and evaluate patient care delivery models and staffing effectiveness
Conduct regular clinical rounds to assess quality of care and compliance
Establish and implement performance evaluation systems to maintain quality care standards
Review reports, clinical studies, and documentation, and recommend appropriate actions
Patient Safety & Compliance
Ensure quarterly dissemination of patient safety trends and incident analyses
Educate nursing staff on proper reporting of medical errors and adverse events
Promote adherence to hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
Team Leadership & Staff Development
Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to nursing personnel
Develop and implement staff training and development programs
Lead recruitment, retention, and recognition initiatives to promote nursing excellence
Recommend appointments, promotions, or disciplinary actions as needed
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment
Operational Coordination
Ensure seamless coordination between Nursing Service and other hospital departments
Represent the Nursing Service in administrative and executive meetings
Organize regular meetings and conferences with nursing units
Demonstrate cost-consciousness and operational efficiency
Organizational Alignment
Promote and uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Ensure effective communication of key updates and strategic initiatives
Qualifications
Registered Nurse with valid PRC license
Proven leadership experience in hospital nursing management
Strong background in patient care standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance
Excellent strategic planning and administrative skills
Outstanding communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities
Willing to be on-call as required
