Job Summary
The Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist is responsible for the assessment, calibration, and quality assurance of radiotherapy equipment and facilities. The role ensures accurate dose delivery and optimal patient safety by developing and implementing a comprehensive quality assurance program for all treatment modalities, localization procedures, and computational equipment.
This professional will uphold hospital policies as well as national and international standards, leading continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives to maintain excellence in radiation therapy services.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program for radiation therapy equipment and treatment procedures.
Conduct dose assessments from radiological procedures and ensure prescribed dose distributions are delivered with high accuracy.
Ensure adherence to proper radiological techniques, including collimation and optimization of radiation protection measures.
Participate in the Radiation Safety Committee and other institutional safety-related committees.
Determine appropriate shielding for new or renovated equipment rooms, ionizing radiation areas, and MRI facilities.
Implement and oversee the radiation safety program, including radioactive waste management, staff training, and compliance with PNRI guidelines.
Supervise preparation, handling, and disposal of radionuclides (special certification required).
Perform acceptance testing, calibration, preventive maintenance, and performance verification of imaging and radiotherapy equipment.
Contribute to facility design and development of special shielding devices for patient and staff protection.
Provide continuing safety education for hospital employees exposed to ionizing radiation or working near MRI systems.
Conduct teaching and training sessions for radiography students, physicians, nurses, and technologists.
Participate in process improvement projects, policy reviews, and cross-functional initiatives to enhance hospital services.
Recommend updates on processes, policies, and equipment usage or replacement to maintain service quality and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Medical Physics (required).
Relevant work experience or accredited specialized training in radiation oncology physics.
Strong foundation in scientific methodology and systematic problem-solving.
Proven ability to conduct QA procedures on diagnostic and radiation therapy devices.
Experience in treatment planning using radiotherapy systems.
Healthcare industry background is a plus.
Excellent patient care and customer service skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications and basic corporate software tools.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Visayan dialect and/or Tagalog required.
