Job Description

Asian Eye Institute is seeking a dedicated, highly skilled, and patient-focused Operating Room (OR) Nurse to join our clinical team. In this full-time role, you will play a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care by supporting ophthalmologists and senior nurse specialists throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of surgery.

As an OR Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering holistic patient care, maintaining surgical safety standards, and ensuring seamless coordination across multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities
Pre-Operative Patient Care
Receive and prepare patients in the pre-operative area while ensuring adherence to patient safety protocols such as “Time-Out” and “Triple Check” procedures.
Review and prepare essential patient documentation including consent forms, medical clearances, laboratory requirements, and OR checklists.
Conduct patient interviews and assessments to develop individualized pre-operative care plans.
Coordinate and initiate prescribed diagnostic procedures and medical preparations before surgery.
Ensure all medical supplies and patient admission requirements are complete and prepared for surgical procedures.
Intra-Operative Support (Scrub Nurse)
Prepare and maintain sterile fields, surgical instruments, medications, and medical supplies required for procedures.
Assist ophthalmologists during surgery through proper sterile techniques, gowning, and gloving procedures.
Handle sterile instruments, sutures, and surgical supplies with precision while ensuring procedural efficiency.
Maintain strict compliance with sterility and infection prevention protocols throughout operations.
Coordinate with the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) for proper instrument reprocessing and aftercare.
Intra-Operative Support (Circulating Nurse)
Facilitate surgical safety checks including Time-Out and Triple Check protocols with the surgical team before procedures begin.
Monitor patient equipment, oxygen support, and anesthesia-related requirements during surgery.
Verify patient records and ensure accurate documentation throughout the surgical process.
Execute intra-operative nursing responsibilities while maintaining compliance with surgical standards and protocols.
Post-Operative Patient Care
Monitor patients immediately after surgery, assess recovery status, and observe vital signs to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Administer physician-prescribed medications and implement post-operative care instructions.
Prepare and organize post-operative medication kits and provide clear aftercare guidance to patients and caregivers.
Ensure complete, accurate, and timely patient chart documentation.
Medical Coordination & Administrative Support
Collaborate with physicians, OR staff, CSSD teams, surgical coordinators, billing, medical records, and patient support departments to ensure smooth surgical operations.
Assist in administrative responsibilities including inventory monitoring, reports preparation, supplies management, and patient census coordination.
Support departmental goals by maintaining operational efficiency and delivering exceptional patient care experiences.

Qualifications:
Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse (PHRN).
Preferably with 6 months to 1 year of Operating Room experience, ideally in an eye center or surgical setting.
IV Therapy Training Certification is preferred.
Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS/ACLS) certifications.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, patient assessment, sterilization, anesthesia protocols, and pain management.
Skilled in operating and maintaining surgical instruments and medical equipment.
Excellent communication, customer service, and attention-to-detail skills.
